Vocational Diploma Programs

Vocational Diploma Programs: The Sultanate’s government, represented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, in cooperation with private education and training institutes and institutions, has approved vocational diploma programs in private training institutions as one of the education path ways in the Sultanate in accordance with the National Qualifications Framework.

These programs target:

  • High school graduates (general diploma) or its equivalent.
  • Those who have completed the Vocational Proficiency Certificate 2.
  • Those who are selected according to government scholarships system.
  • All those studying on their own expense.
  • Those who are currently working, and  wish to continue their study for a higher academic qualification.

These programs are designed according to work sector requirements for upcoming years and it includes all the theoretical and practical knowledge that students need to be fully professionally qualified and fit for work.

In a specific specialty the period of program is not less than two years, preceded by foundation year that includes development in the English language communications skills computer , mathematics, physics,
work ethics, occupational health and safety… etc. according to need of each specialty.

The total number of credit hours the students will earn is not less than 60 credit hours or equivalent credit points. The theoretical modules in the program range from 20% to 40%, and the practical study percentage from 60% to 80% of the total course modules in addition on that those programs included not less than 8 weeks on job training.

Program objectives:

  1. Providing the necessary training in order to create a qualified workforce.
  2. These programs are designed to ensure that graduates will be able to perform the work required after studying.
  3. These programs include the necessary skills that have been designed on global standards according to international recognitions bodies, provided that the Institute trains them at the Institute’s premises according to an organized study plan. It also includes a plan for practical training under the supervision of international approved assessors
  4. It gives the graduate the opportunity to enter the labor market or continue studying to obtain a higher qualification.

Admission Requirement

General requirements for admission into the vocational diploma programs:

  • Educational: Holds a general education diploma or its equivalent (Certificate of Professional Competence 2).
  • Medical fitness: Medical fitness report according to the requirements of the program in which he is registered.
  • Interview / Entry test: Passing the personal interviews or tests required to join the program, if applicable.
  • Experience: Those who have work experience not less than 6 years in same  field who have completed the ninth grade can continue their studies with institute to obtain a Certificate of Professional Competence 1 or 2 and then join the vocational  diploma  in accordance with the requirements specified by the MOHRE for that category.

Registration processes

Determine the required specialization within the offered programs.

  • Pay the study fees
  • Submit the required documents:
    • A-  Copy of a valid ID card or passport and residence permit (foreign students)
    • B- Copy of the education certificate.
    • T- Six  personal photos with a white background.
    • D-  non-conviction certificate issued by the Royal Oman Police.
    • C- Medical fitness report.
  • Recognition of experience: Book an appointment to conduct personal interview or take the tests required to join the program.
  • Confirming the start date of the program and submitting the academic material.
  • Registering the student in institute’s electronic system Polysoft, as well as with the Ministry of Higher Education and affiliation  body according to registered program .
  • Trying to find solutions to any problem faced  the student in the process of completing registration procedures whenever possible.

Recognition of experience (RPL) and previous education for equivalency purposes:

The years of practical experience in the specialty in which registration is requested are evaluated if the experience is accredited and registered in the labor system, in addition to university study for some modules for the specialization program according to the documents submitted by the student, the number of hours and the content of the scientific subjects completed and after acceptance and approval by the supervising authorities represented by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
